How to Be Positive in a Negative World

It is very important for us to stay positive in a negative world. It is our decision to stay positive. It is our decision to live in peace, not in frustration with the way things are going.

We make hundreds to thousands of decisions everyday. Such as, when to wake up, what to wear, what to eat, what to work on and what to put off for another day, what to watch, read or listen to. We can’t get away from making choices.

The world around us may be negative – we may hear it daily – gas prices rising, economy getting worse – real estate sales down – food prices rising, which political candidate will become the next president and on and on it goes. It is our personal choice how we live in this life. We can choose to see the good in things, the good in people, the good at our jobs. Why not chime in on a conversation and bring out some of the positive things in this world. You may just get some people thinking differently!

A lot of people believe that society dwells on drama, and even feeds off of it. Others wonder why they are stuck in the same situation every day, and they wonder why they can’t figure a way out.

One solution to these is to remain positive. The ideas here should help individuals learn to gain a measure of positivity in a world where negativity sometimes reigns supreme.

Find a place to be quiet and by yourself for just a few minutes each day.

This will allow you to relax, decompress, and have a time when there are few outside demands. This is one reason that Buddhist monks stay at a monastery: ordinary life places too many demands on looking inward, and so monks tend to separate out completely. Because most of us need to live a more practical life in society, a few minutes per day should suffice.

Control the amount of negative news in my life.

While I want to stay up on the events occurring in the world, sometimes a headline is sufficient to grasp new developments. I limit the time I spend with TV, radio and Internet, selecting only a few stories to read in full.


A smile is a simple but powerful tool. It  automatically makes us fee
better and touches the people around us. Are you  smiling now?

Be honest.

When we tell the truth we never have to remember  what we said to whom. Honesty may be hard in the moment, but you will definitely  sleep better at night.

Express your appreciation to others.

You can create a positive world one person at a time by saying thank you every chance you get to everyone you interact with – from the person who holds open a door for you to your child who does a chore to a cherished friend or loved one.

Focus on what you can change, let go of what you can’t change. When faced with a distressing situation ask yourself if you can control over the events. If you do, change what you can. If you don’t, learn to let it go and move on.

Give more hugs.

If you have to, wear a free hugs t-shirt and offer people a warm embrace as they walk into the mall or local grocery store. This will help spread the love revolution and increase your positive energy as well; we may have a lot of violence in the world, but a hug can instantly remind us of our true loving nature.

We can change the world through our speaking, actions and prayers. We don’t have to accept what the world is offering—we don’t have to live like the world is living. Our prayers can change situations. It is truly our decision to live and stay positive in this world—and by doing so we can be a positive influence in the world!
